Bobby Webster
General Manager of Pro-Formance Intermodal
Company Background
Pro-Formance Intermodal isn’t your average trucking company. Headquartered in Calgary with operations across Canada and into the U.S., they’ve built a reputation for handling everything (and we mean everything). They’re licensed to move anything from firearms to liquor to cannabis and everything in between.
They started as a 5-truck operation. Now? They’re a 400-person logistics force with 200+ tractors, 300+ trailers, and 700+ chassis. They’ve expanded from drayage into warehousing, over-the-road, intermodal, and more. There’s almost nothing Pro-Formance Intermodal can’t do, and no type of cargo they cannot touch.
But even as the company expanded, drayage remained an important part of its business — and Pro-Formance was looking to improve efficiencies in the drayage arm of their business. That’s why they turned to PortPro.

Billing Used to Take 2–3 Days. Now It Takes 2-3 Hours.
Before PortPro, billing was a bottleneck. Invoices could only go out once the PODs, TIRs, BOLs, and other documentation had been collected and attached to the correct invoice. And the process for collecting these documents was time-consuming, to say the least.
Before, drivers would drop physical documents into a dropbox. Then a 4-person team spent hours scanning the documents figuring out which load they were attached to. The invoices would even go out until 2-3 days after a load was completed.

With PortPro, the days-long process has been condensed into a few hours. Drivers upload paperwork into the app. That paperwork is automatically attached to the correct load within PortPro TMS. Then, the driver completes the load and Pro-Formance can send out the invoice.

A 3-day billing process was condensed into just a few hours.
That shift doesn’t just save time. It puts cash back in the business faster. The faster you can see cash back in your pocket, the faster you can grow.

Removing Manual Work Creates New (And Better) Jobs
As we just mentioned, before PortPro, managing paperwork from drivers was a full-time job. Actually, it was 4 full-time jobs. 4 different team members spent all day scanning documents and figuring out which load they applied to. Now, that job no longer exists.
PortPro fully replaced 4 people’s full-time jobs.
Does that mean they were all laid off? Absolutely not. They were all promoted. Now, they’re in more impactful roles. Doing important work that’s helping Pro-Formance continue to grow.
Automating Drayage Operations Leaves Room to Grow
Back in the early days, Pro-Formance was moving 250-300 drayage loads per day.
The process was mostly manual.
Dispatchers texted the load details to drivers on What’s App. Load management happened mostly on spreadsheets. And mistakes weren’t common, but they happened. Especially when loads had multiple legs.
With PortPro, they’ve automated the vast majority of busy work, from delivery order to dispatch to invoicing. And everything in-between.
Now, instead of getting bogged down by busy work, they’ve been able to expand into new lines of business — intermodal, over-the-road, warehousing, you name it.

More Visibility = Happier Customers
Before PortPro, there was no way to spot when a customer started sending fewer loads. By the time their team noticed a drop in revenue, it was often too late.
Now, they’re able to track load volume by customer in real time using PortPro’s out-of-the-box reporting. If they notice a drop, they go visit the customers to see if there was a reason behind the drop in volume.
“On PortPro, we get full visibility into volume by customer. We noticed one customer had a dip in volume. So we went out to visit the customer and turned the relationship around. Now volume is higher than ever before. And this is just one example.”

Since they’re automating the busy work, they’re able to spend more time adding that personal touch to customer relationships — and not only save customers, but bring volume back even higher.

PortPro is a no-brainer for drayage
PortPro is the only TMS purpose-built for drayage carriers.
