The Hidden Currency of Success: How Drayage Trucking Companies Are Reclaiming Time Through Technology

In an industry where every minute counts, the question isn’t just how much time you’re saving—it’s what you’re doing with it.

In an industry where every minute counts, the question isn’t just how much time you’re saving—it’s what you’re doing with it.

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about time and how we value it. I recently wrote an article in Forbes on the subject — how we balance time and money, deciding which investments are worthwhile to save us minutes, hours, or even days in the long run.

This is a topic I care deeply about, not only for my own time but for the time of PortPro’s customers. Drayage trucking companies are operated by some of the hardest-working, busiest people I’ve ever met. Their days are filled with managing drivers, customer questions, coordinating pickups and deliveries, dealing with port congestion, and handling countless logistical challenges. Anything that can save them time and streamline their operations is incredibly valuable.

Technology is a huge timesaver in drayage, no matter which role you play in this part of the supply chain, and you don’t have to take my word for it. Our customers are telling us how much time they’ve saved by implementing our software.

Here are some of their stories…

RoadEx, a California-based drayage company with 120 drivers, reports saving thousands of dollars in demurrage fines – and the time needed to process and resolve those fees – because our TMS gave them better real-time visibility into container and shipment status. On top of that, RoadEx is saving more than 14,000 hours per year across accounting, operations, and drivers. Imagine if you could get back that kind of time. Imagine the possibilities of what you could do with that time.

S&R Trucking scrapped its spreadsheets and legacy server-based system for our TMS. As a result, the Canada-based drayage company with 300+ drivers cut down its driver dispatch time by 80%, leading to dispatch saving 750 hours annually. With the old tech systems, drivers were spending up to 40 minutes per load, and now that figure is just 10 minutes. Another impressive improvement: Customer service cut down its daily work from eight to nine hours each day to only one to two hours, saving 1,750 over a year.
